Abstract

Background. The article attempts to identify and systematize the election requirements for candidates for the Royal office in Rome in the period of VIII–VI centuries BC. Regarding the formation of higher authorities the Ancient World was gradually approaching the elective principles, seemingly conflicting with the monarchical form of government. The subject of the research is the process of establishing election procedures in Ancient Rome: structural features of the election, the formation of a circle of participants of the election process, requirements to them. The identification, analysis, characteristic features, classification of electoral qualifications to be met by candidates for the Imperial position in Rome in the period of VIII–VI centuries BC – are the purposes of this article. The novelty of the research lies in the approaches to the issues.
Materials and methods. The authors used such methods, which fully disclose the given subject. The methodological basis included, firstly, the principle of dialectics as a general principle of scientific knowledge. The study also used general scientific methods, specially scientific and special methods, including: systematic, comparative-historical, textual, historical and legal, methods of analysis and synthesis etc. The novelty of the research lies in the approaches to the issues.
Results. The authors estimated qualitative and quantitative characteristics of the candidates participating in the elections.
Conclusions. The study evaluated the qualitative and quantitative characteristics of the candidates participating in the elections. The main contribution of the authors is the systematization of electoral qualifications applicable to candidates for theoffice of the head of state, and their presentation in diagrams.
